Virgin to o2 disaster

Please can some one help me get my o2 account activated.

I'm changing from virgin sim to o2,I can't log in to virgin mobile account or the o2 account. My virgin sim has been cancelled  without porting my number. Virgin say if I port my number I will have left and the £200+ balance becomes payable. When trying to register with o2,I get the message o2 is not activated. My old number is in the ether. What on earth do I do?
