Changed SIM-only plan - charged twice?

As I was coming to the end of my 12-month SIM-only contract, VM offered me a new 12-month SIM-only deal, which I accepted.  This took place midway through a billing cycle (cycle is 8th-7th; the change took place on the 16th Oct.)

My latest bill shows a pro-rata charge for the period 16th Oct - 7th Nov. I was on my new package, plus the charge for the month ahead.

However, I had already paid for 8th Oct - 7th Nov. on my previous bill, so have I now been charged twice for the period 16th Oct. - 7th Nov? Or will I receive a pro-rata refund at some point? The old and new monthly charges are the same, so as far as I'm concerned there shouldn't have been charge for 16th Oct - 7th Nov.

Any help would be appreciated, as I can't find any help pages or previous posts relating to this sort of question.
