Virgin haven't took my payment and cancelled my direct debit

I called before I went on holiday to advise that I needed to move my direct debit date by 2 days as that's when I would have the funds avaliable to pay, they said it'd all been done however now I've came home from holiday to see that they haven't took my payment despite the money been in the bank for them to take it and they have cancelled my direct debit and now I am in debt with them, has anyone else ever had this problem.
