All I want to do is change my direct debit from one bank to another but before I can do so, I have to make a payment. I can't make a payment because every time I try, virgin's website crashes. I tried phoning but after being passed around I was connected to an old number where a recorded voice told me to redial the main switchboard and then cut me off. It should not be this difficult to change a direct debit!

Sorry to hear that you have not been able to change the direct debit date, if there is a balance on the account, this will need to cleared first. You can make payments over the phone by speaking to an agent but also through the automated system, so you don't get transferred about.
