Genuine call from loyalty team or not?

I have given noticed to VM on 14/01 with my 30 days expiring on the 13th Feb. 

I was called from a mobile phone on 15/1.

This guy called from a mobile phone [removed], he said he's from the retention loyalty team and his name is Perry King. 

Was this call genuine?

I was offered a 1£ reduction, which is not enough, considering that with the discount, bill would still go up by 67%.

I feel I'm happy to renegotiate if VM agrees to drop a further 3-4£, which is more in the ballpark.

However I'm reluctant to call a mobile number and oddly, I haven't received retention calls at all. Do they not bother trying to retain loyal customers? 

I've been with VM for 12 years.
