Deceptive change in renewal contract?

Al_Chemist
Tuning in

I’ve been reading these user forums for a very long time and have  found much useful information here. So thanks to all of the contributors whether VM employees or volunteers. I’ve also hoped that I’d never have to post, because that usually means there is a problem that needs resolving. Perhaps that time has come.

Like many other Virgin Media customers my contract is due for renewal. I received the standard renewal email interspersed with “Renew your contract”buttons. It states amongst other things:

“Your Virgin Media contract’s coming to an end soon. Why not save yourself the hassle of shopping around with this exclusive offer? It’s the package you know and love – with the same 516Mbps average download speeds – for just a little extra”

Same package.              Same speeds.          Less hassle.

Note the emphasis on “same package”. Clicking the “Renew your contract” button leads to a follow up email with the pre-contract documents.

Now my actual current package is: M500 Fibre broadband, Virgin V6 box, Mega TV, phone line rental.

Looking closely at the documents I see that my new contract package (supposedly the same as my current package) is: M500 Fibre broadband, Virgin TV 360, Mega TV, phone line rental.

Notice the difference?

Am I being deceived into taking 360 in place of V6 or is there an innocent explanation?
Let me be clear, I’m fully cognisant of the pros and cons of Horizon/360 versus TiVo/V6 and I have seen  the 360 in action. It is much improved since its inception but to me it still falls far short of the V6. You may gather that I do not want my V6  box software “upgraded” to 360. I want what is promised ie the same package. Can anyone clarify what’s going on here - is it safe for me to renew?

Hi @Al_Chemist, thank you for your post.

We understand your frustration and where you're coming from.

Given that you'd like to keep your V6 box as it is, we'd suggest contacting our customer relations team to establish what we can offer with that in mind. The best number on which to call the team is 0345 454 1111 (Option one, then four, then four), or 150 from a Virgin Media landline or Virgin Mobile.

Please let us know how you get on.

Regards,
Daniel
