Sorry to hear that you've not been able to change your contact number via your online account. What error message do you get when you try to change the number? Is this the same on both the website or through the app?

Hi, I have just tested changing my telephone on my VM account and it comes up with the error "Sorry the changes you made were not saved, please try again"
Not sure if that's what @Louise515 is seeing but there is definitely a problme there. 😉

Normally we would suggest doing so as seen here https://www.virginmedia.com/my-virgin-media However in your case, I have sent a private message to further look into this. Please look out for the purple envelope and provide a response when you can.
