Checking contract end date (Broadband+Landline)

Do hope someone can advise:

Everyone (this forum, and Ofcom included) say it should be:

  1. Log in to your Virgin Media account.
  2. Select 'My Account'.
  3. Select 'Check your contract details'. You'll find your end date here.

Alas, mine says: Contract started xx December 2018, change of contract xx January 2019.

We are now in February 2023 - er??

Best wishes, Perplexed Pippa

Re: Checking contract end date (Broadband+Landline)

Contracts don't end until you explicitly give 30days notice to cancel your services - a rolling contract is required to be inplace to have live services.

Many people confuse "contract end" with "minimum term date", before which cancellation will incur early termination fees.

Based on your post, I would think you were out of minimum term sometime late 2019/early-mid 2020. The exact time would depend whether you had a 12 or 18month minimum term.

Re: Checking contract end date (Broadband+Landline)

Dear Japitts,

Thank you.

Do I understand you correctly - If "there is no contract end date" and I want to change "PROVIDER" (soon'ish) I can, without penalty?

Best wishes,

Pippa

If you're outside your minimum term, you can give 30days cancellation notice anytime.

Re: Checking contract end date (Broadband+Landline)

And if you want the minimum hassle, then do it by post, address at section N of the Terms & Conditions.  Because of the recent price rise announcement there's a lot of people wanting to cancel or renegotiate, so service standards for cancellations and renewals will be even more variable than they normally are.

During any notice period you're very likely to get outbound retentions calls - you can either ignore these, or see if they'll offer you a good deal - hold out for the sort of offers they give new customers, and if you play hardball they'll eventually do that.  But know a good deal when you hear one - you can't put the phone down and consider it, any offer only exists at the time you're speaking to that agent, and lapses if you put the phone down without accepting it.

Re: Checking contract end date (Broadband+Landline)

Hi Pippa33,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums.

We're sorry to hear you're looking to leave Virgin Media. As mentioned above by japitts, if there is no minimum term showing on your contract or this date has passed then you would be able to offer your 30 days notice whenever you want without penalty.

To do this, there are 3 ways in which you can get help:

  1. You can speak to the team on 0345 454 1111 and selecting options 1, 4 then 4 again.
  2. You can WhatsApp the team on +44730 532 7112. Replies aren't instant and can take a few hours however it does allow you to go about your day whilst waiting for a reply.
  3. You can write a letter stating that you wish to cancel your services. You will need to include your account number, your name and full address as well as contact details for you. Send your letter to Virgin Media, Sunderland, SR43 4AA

The teams can go through the disconnection process with you but if you have any further queries or questions, we're here to help.

Many thanks,
