Cannot confirm new username

I know this has been asked before but no solution seems to be available.

I had to change my VirginMedia username as my Virgin email address seems to be linked to my email account only and can't be used as my VirginMedia username. (This, although Virgin always use that email address to send me information about my VirginMedia services.) I changed it to a Hotmail address I have. Virgin then sent an email with a link to confirm my username but the link takes me to a page saying

'Sorry, we can't confirm your username

Sorry, but we're having a few technical problems, and we can't confirm your username at the moment. We're working on it, so please try again later.'

This has been going on for months. I can't access my account until this is sorted. I'd be grateful for any advice on how to resolve this.

We would need to raise this with our IT Team 

Its an easy fix and can take around 10 days due to the current situation 

I will send you a private message to get account details 

If you check the purple envelope top right that would be great

Can you please try the link again that has been sent via hotmail

If this doesn't work, then I will raise a ticket with our IT department

Gareth is not available currently so I will raise the IT ticket for you. Before I do we will have to go through security again as it has been a while since you last spoke. I hope this is OK for you?
