COVID strikes - can’t afford my bill

I need to cancel my contract (6months left), COVID has made me lose my job and my partner no longer living at the address I’m struggling to cover all the bills with a standard low paying job,

I have noticed they increased my monthly bill this year, can’t say I noticed any notification as I usually bin all of their spam they send out…  and I rarely look at my transactions.

They want £180 to cancel, but are willing to lower my monthly cost but will start a new contract which at the time I can’t guarantee I’ll still be able to afford it in 5-6 mo the time.

anyone have any ideas? Suggestion how to go about it?

Re: COVID strikes - can’t afford my bill

It sounds as though you've already called into VM and discussed your circumstances with an agent. In all honesty, they're probably the best people to talk to.

The staff team on here can assist with many account issues, but package changes aren't one of them. There is an annual price rise sometime around late Q1/early Q2 (which was binned off in 2020), but otherwise your monthly bills & downloadable contract (log into your "myVirginMedia" online account) do list all your promotional discounts together with their expiry date.

The online help at https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-media-missed-payment is also well worth a read - it includes contact details for the specialist C/S area who deal with situations such as yours.
