Broadband Re connection admin fee

Hi all, hope you are staying safe.  Hope I'm in the right section.

My son who plays a lot of online games got his own virgin broadband into his room so as not to rely on our wifi. He moved out and cancelled the account and sent back all the router etc. After over a year he has moved back in and again doesn't want to rely on our wifi so he has arranged for broadband to be installed again in his room. He has been hit with a £65 admin charge.

He's been away over a year so why would he be charged £65 to re connect? I told him to tell them to bolt.

Any advice appreciated as £65 over and above the new set up charges etc seems a bit excessive. As usual he can't get through on the phone to challenge.

This  account will be all under his own name etc as previous.

Cheers.

Re: Broadband Re connection admin fee

afaik it will be looked on as a new install - did you book a tech or do self install - i think that can make a difference - he should have got a new user deal for the new contract so that would help to offset the cost

Re: Broadband Re connection admin fee

Yeah, hes requested a tech as when he moved out I re decorated and ripped out all the cabling from the room. When we had our own issues they also removed the connection to that room to tidy up the connection box on the outside wall.

Re: Broadband Re connection admin fee

Hello j4mbo

Thanks for posting your query and thanks for raising this.

From the amount you have advised this £65 may be made up of two separate charges:

  • £35 Installation Fee
  • £30 Activation Fee

These are both standard charges applicable to all customers and should be noted on the contract taken by your friend. Can you get him to double check this for us please?

Rob

Re: Broadband Re connection admin fee

Sorry, do you mean you can see the charges showing as Rob advised above?

If so, these are standard charges for all customers and will be applied on to the bill.

Thanks
