Advice on leaving VM

jeannemarie20
Tuning in

I'm thinking about leaving VM because despite being a long term client over many years my ultra fast package is costing me more as a loyal customer than it would if I joined now as a new customer.

Why do companies not reward those customers who have stayed with them but instead just offer deals to new customers?

Any recommendations as to where to go? Many thanks

New customer pricing is a 'loss-leader', 'introductory offer', call it what you will. There is not too much point comparing new customer pricing with that for existing customers.

What other options have you researched as an alternative to VM? Your options may be highly area-specific to where you live.

Openreach is rolling out FTTP across the country at a fast pace. I moved to a BT connection via Openreach FTTP last year. I have been very pleased with it. It is a far superior connection to the one I had with VM.

If you live in an urban area you may have access to some of the alt-net providers such as CityFibre etc.

There is good advice on renewing with VM from Andrew-G at message #5 below

If you decide to stay with VM, factor in the changes to T&Cs in 2024 regarding no longer being able to leave and waive early disconnection fees as well as inflation-linked price rises.

Some report the best offers from VM only come in once you have given your 30 days notice to leave (although there is no guarantee at all you will get such a retentions call and it is suggested you have marketing options turned on in 'My Virgin Media' to allow the call to happen).

Your choices are to renegotiate with VM for a better deal or to leave for something bigger/better/faster with another provider.

My Volt contract is up in June and I’ve been weighing up the alternatives as the new Virgin T&Cs are unacceptable and indefensible.
We don’t have FTTP available on our street yet so I’m looking at trying Three home broadband as I have excellent speeds on my Three mobile around the house (even on 4G I get around 100mb download at peak times). £20 a month, 30 day no risk trial, self install so I won’t need an OpenReach engineer. Might be worth a look.
For TV I have a Roku stick but I’m considering trialling Sky Stream for a month.
