porting number from bt

Hi -

My active BT brandband and landline is due to terminate on 11 may

I've signed up to VM broadand and telephone and to retain the telephone number... with an install date of 9th may (hoping to have a 2 day overlap just in case)....

But in response I've receievd an email from BT saying that my service (broadband & phone) will now terminate on the 9th may... I presume this is because VM have requested my landline number to port on that date as well?

Is this the way it is supposed to work .... or is it possible for VM to install service on the 9th but request the number port after (eg 11th?) so my bt service can run in parallel for a couple of days?

Hello @Mpav9,

Welcome, thanks for posting.

If we do not do it on the instalment date, we would need to wait until the install has gone ahead. To then send the order off, as we would need to install you with a temporary number.

It would be around 8 days after the install date, when your number would be ported over, as the number needs to be on the system for us to request the port over.

We can help with this, let us know when everything is installed, then we can go from there.

Thanks for the reply....

just to clarify the timings ...

So if for example – VM & phone (with temp number) is installed on the 9th...

& BT terminate on the 11th (BT contract ends)..

Is my BT phone number still available for porting to VM at some point after the 11th  (even after my BT contract ends).. or does it disappear on the 11th if it hasn’t already been ported?

No problem, so you will need to contact us on the 9th when you have been installed. Then we can put in the request for the Port over, so then you should not lose your BT number, I would suggest asking BT to extend the time it is active, to avoid anything going wrong.
