locked in contract - broken phone

HI Can anyone answer this.... I have a Nokia 5 with Virgin on a 2 year contract.   I am currently 6 months in and have dropped my phone and had the screen replaced.   The screen is now not working properly.   No insurance.  Virgin will not allow me to have another contract alongside my old one for a new phone and the only way out is to pay up front the remaining term of the Contract which I cannot afford, they will not allow it to be paid off monthly.   If i purchase a cheap no sim phone am I able to just transfer my virgin sim with no issue and use it in the new phone?  I have been with Virgin for many years but feel like they have me absolutely trapped here. Very disappointed.

Re: locked in contract - broken phone

surely you can go back to whoever and get them to sort the screen out if its not working

if thats not an option afaik you can put the sim in any phone as long as a new phone is unlocked to VM
