Why is my corded telephone not ringing when connected to my new virgins Media Hub 3?

Can anyone help me please.  My old 'BT Duet 500' corded landline telephone does not ring when connected to my new Virgin Media Hub 3 (worked fine before when my telephone was connected to my standard BT ADSL wall socket).  I know the telephone line is working because I can call my mobile number from my BT Duet 500 telephone and it works fine however, when I try to ring my BT Duet 500 telephone from my mobile (while my mobile is still ringing) there is no connection and all I hear is the standard dialling tone!  I also tried replacing the standard Virgin Media adapter with another adapter that I purchased on eBay, which included a ringing capacitor (apparently required for older phones like mine) but, sadly, that didn't work.  Any advice or suggestions would be welcomed.  Thank you

Hello AnonVMF,

Thanks for your first post and welcome to our Community.

Sorry to hear your phone is not ringing since the switchover to our Fibre line.

Would you be able to try an alternative handset to see if yours needs replacing.

It may be the age of the handset that is not compatible with the new line?

When you ring in (with the VM adapter or the eBay adapter) does the ringing light on the phone flash for an incoming call?

The 'BT Duet' phone ranges do get quite a few mentions on here for not ringing via the VM hub.

Presumably this is happening for you (and no ringing light showing) with both the VM adapter and also the eBay ringing capacitor adapter.

Final thing you could try (if you happen to have such a thing lying around at home anywhere) is to insert an ADSL microfilter (the thing we used to have to connect to every phone socket in the home during the days of ADSL lines) in between the VM adapter and the phone

Hub>>VM adapter>>ADSL microfilter>>Phone

The ADSL filter should also contain a ringing capacitor. The purpose of doing this would just be as a double check to make sure the eBay adapter is not an issue.

I'd be out of ideas after that and it might be new-phone-time.

Hi AnonVMF, thanks for the message and welcome to the forums.

I am sorry to hear that the landline is not working. How did you fair with the ASDL adaptor?

Do you get the same issue with an alternative handset?

Kind regards, Chris.

Hi Chris,

Many thanks for your message.  Sadly, I had already tried connecting an ADSL adapter but that didn't work either.  I have therefore decided to look at buying a suitable compatible replacement phone (grateful to receive recommendations from the Virgin Media Community).

Kind regards

Thanks for the reply @AnonVMF on the forums 👋

Let us know how it goes with the replacement phone and we can go on from there.

Kind regards,
Ilyas.
