VOIP connections

My 98 year old mother has just been upgraded to VOIP.

Her previous telephones were 3 x conventional phones, one in the lounge, one in the hall and one in the bedroom, plus a Carecall system, wired using conventional BT sockets.

The VOIP phone is plugged into the box in the lounge and a Virgin techie has visited the house to fit additional wiring to accommodate the phones but there is no dial tone on the phone in the hall or bedroom, even though they ring if there is an incoming call.

She is too old and infirm to cope with wireless handsets.

Can anyone advise if buying and installing new handsets will work?

There is a fault in the wiring to the telephone sockets that lack a dial tone.

You should be able to confirm all the telephones work by testing them one at a time on a socket this does have a dial tone.

Just in case you do end up inspecting the wires, the telephone sockets the are wired in parallel with either 3 or 4 cables.   Suspect a loose or missing connection (possibly on the No 2 contact).
