Telephone crackling

Hi all,

I need some help.

My Virgin media landline is crackling so badly it's almost unusable.  What I know.

One phone only connected directly to the socket.  Nothing else at all.

Ran diagnostics via Virgin site. No issues reported.

New phone swapped and connected.  Made no difference to the amount of noise.

Wires all appear to be correct from what I can see.

Any help appreciated as it's driving us nuts.

Call it in as a telephone fault and see what they say - call at 08.00 to get through quickly.
