Can someone please remind me how to stop new telephone callers (i.e. not on our current Contacts list) from getting directly through?
In other words, they have to say who they are and then we decide whether to accept or reject the phone call.
Had this option for years but not since we changed our telephone
Thank you in advance

Welcome back to our Community Forums! Thank you for your post and I'm very sorry to hear that you've been receiving a higher amount of spam calls than usual! We can understand your frustration.
Please take a look at our Block Nuisance Calls page for more information to see how you can manage incoming calls.

I think you are talking about call guardian where somebody has to say their name and you get the option to reject them. Sadly vm don’t other that service as such but they do have certain features that may help you. The feature you are thinking about does not exist on VM landlines.
Also have a look at trueCall
https://www.truecall.co.uk/category-s/116.htm
which works very well or some of the BT phone ranges with some trueCall features built into them. (Note though that users of the Hub 5 presently seem to have another different set of problems when using BT phones so avoid if using a Hub 5)
Having VM's own 'anonymous caller reject' set up on the line may cause you more problems than it solves as it places a blanket block on all 'withheld' numbers good (such as doctors, hospitals etc.) and bad (scammers etc.) with no discrimination between the two.
