Spam call showing local number then lots of calls

Had a call this morning on landline- showing as a local number on caller id. Answered and then it was a spam recording supposedly from Amazon & hung up.

After putting the phone down had about 6-7 calls back saying they were returning a missed call from our number.

Any ideas?

I've unplugged the phone to stop anymore nuisance calls - tried to report to Virgin via the chat but put in a queue - that was 5hrs ago!

Thanks

Re: Spam call showing local number then lots of calls

Hello knoyce

Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention

We are fully aware of scams like this and so are every other Telephone Company

We are looking at ways to stop these calls, but right now it's impossible as soon as a number is blocked, then the caller's set up a new number

You can get help here

Re: Spam call showing local number then lots of calls

This has been mentioned on the forums before and seems to be getting more frequent mentions.

A possibility is that your phone number was used as a fake caller ID during a scam call attempt. Usually, the fake caller ID used by the scammers is a random non-existent number but your actual number may possibly have been used. This might be to add a greater sense of authenticity to the scammers' calls if the scam recipient does check up on the number and finds it is actually a real one.

The scammers usually switch their fake caller ID after a short time so, with any luck and if this is the explanation for your calls, you should find that the inbound calls to you should hopefully stop in due course.

If they don't, then you will need to post back for further help from VM.
