Recently joined. Old landline number not ported in

Hi, just re-joined VM after a few years on Monday. 

Asked to bring my landline phone number with me, but it doesn't seem to have transferred in. 

Now I don't use the landline much, but it is used by elderly relatives, so currently they just get a "number not in use" tone 

Does it take time for VM to claim the old number?

First question. Id the old number/line still active with your old provider without a request to cancel the line.account?

I spoke to Plusnet on monday evening to check what i needed to do. They cancelled my account on the phone and said that they needed to free the number so VM could claim it.

they cancelled the ability for VM or anyone else to be able to port.
The port will fail now.

As per ofcoms rules. the number MUST be active without a cancelation request on it.

Plusnet have screwed you over. you've lost the number

Oh joy. Where do they get these cowboys from?

I very specifically said that I wanted the old number porting over - he replied "we'll need to cancel it so VM can claim it"

Plusnet agent: Sorry boss i wasn't able to retain this customer.

Manager: i should fire you....

Plusnet agent: BUt wait. I did cancel the phone line so the new provider can't port it and the customer will blame the new provider and wnat to come back to us.

Manager: Good work.... Have a rise.
