I was supposed to have ported my home phone number from BT as it's used for health support calls and printed in various places. As no calls have been received since moving to Virgin I test rang using my mobile but says that the number is not valid. When I joined Virgin I asked for the number to be ported so if it hasn't, what's my number?

Hey JBrough, it should of giving you an option to place the number in.
I would give them a quick call to see if they reactivate the number from there side.
Please do keep me updated. Thanks

If you are waiting for a number port, VM should have given you a temporary landline phone number.
Call your mobile from your VM landline and you will see the temporary landline number from the caller display on the mobile.

Thank you, I thought of that earlier but was tied up (not literally :)) and read your message before doing it. I have got the number from that but the porting of the number should take less than 2 months. Think I'll contact BT.
Anyway, thanks again goslow for replying and Happy New Year.

Is your former BT line, with your original number, still active/working?
It is regularly mentioned on here that the old line/number must be operational and have no pending disconnection request on it in order for a port to take place. VM staff on here often quotes a figure of up to 10 days to port a number once your VM line has been installed.
If you have been waiting 2 months with no port, then it sounds like something may have gone adrift in the porting process.

Hey JBrough, thank you for reaching out and a warm welcome to the community I am sorry to hear you are having porting issues.
A port normally takes 10 - 14 working days to go through, if the BT number is still active we will be able to port this over, however if it not active anymore we won't be able to port this number over sorry.
Do you know if the BT number is still active at all? Thanks

Hi Matthew,
I joined virgin media online and ticked a box that said I wanted to retain my phone number. I presumed that virgin did everything and that they would arrange with BT for this to happen. My services with them officially ended on 5th December. Do I need to contact BT myself?

I've contacted BT and the number is still available but they said they had to hear from virgin to port the number, they couldn't do it from their end.
