I have been experiencing poor quality sound/crackling/while noise on and off on my landline throughout lockdown. I have always put it down to my hands free handset being so old, but before I purchase a new handset, I would like to get the line checked if it’s possible? The last time there was an issue, the technician mentioned the lines were crossed at the junction box or something to that effect?

I only use hands free, due to the location of the single phone socket available. This allows me to take calls upstairs where there are none. I’ve had 3 handsets over the 15 yrs I have been at this property and only had issues twice in this time. The latest occurrence was during lockdown, with it’s worst being over December. I had to ask all callers to ring my mobile, as very little could be heard. I only use my landline to call 150 and receive calls from parents/in-laws, so you can see why I would rather not buy another if it really is my line rather than my current handset.
