Phone line dead

Tuning in

Got a landline for a new job I’m starting soon and the hub is too far away from the phone - it’s in a different room. The cable provided by Virgin doesn’t work but the adapter they provided does work along with the lead that was already in the handset.

Desperately trying to get it sorted before I start my job so ordered two different cables to see if they’ll fit to extend the reach but neither work. Any ideas?

Assuming your are talking about connecting a conventional telephone (POTS) and not hooking up some kind of VOIP telephone handset provided by your employer ...

A cordless phone system with a couple of handsets might be the most simple fix. Plug the base station into the TEL1 socket on VM hub, via the VM phone adapter, and use a satellite cordless handset where required.

You could ask VM to try and modify your home phone wiring (at a cost of £25 for a non-fault callout) but you might save on personal stress, in having to deal with VM, by just ordering a cordless phone system if that is the kind of connection you are after!

Hey @abigailporter15, thanks for reaching out to us and a warm welcome to the Virgin Media forums.

I'm sorry to hear about the issue with the connecting port of the landline and the hub.
May I ask if you have just been switched over from the conventional copper lines to the new VOIP line?
If so, we can arrange something to get this relocated for you.

You may also wish to try getting wireless / cordless handsets as they will work as well.

Kind regards,
Ilyas.

I’m not sure - we had an engineer come last year (maybe August?) when we first moved in to ensure the WiFi hub would work but nothing regarding phone line. I had the self install so no engineer this time.

I can’t have wireless handset as my new job has specified which handset I need. When the previous tenants moved out, they had cut the phone line so have to plug into the hub.

Thank you @goslow that’s helpful info. Think I’m going to have to book for a non-fault callout as I can’t have the wireless or cordless phone for my new job.

Thank you for the reply @abigailporter15.

I will assist you on this and get this done for you.
I will send a private message - watch out for the purple envelope inviting you in to a chat.
