Number port to Sky

Hi.

I tried to order Sky phone and broadband today and keep my existing number.  They cancelled the order stating they can't port over the number from Virgin, as Virgin won't allow it.  The guy on the phone days Virgin 'keep the numbers'.

Is this allowed?  The number is an original BT number that I ported over to Virgin a few years ago, I don't understand what the issue is?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Number port to Sky

No, Virgin dont "keep the numbers"

Many providers cannot port from Virgin, I found BT could where as TalkTalk, Sky and EE couldnt when I faced a similar issue with a neighbour

Highly unlikely. Virgin is totally seperate from the Openreach network, so its not just a case of changing a few plugs around in the local telephone exchange.

Virgin BB TV Landline. Freeview/Freesat HD, Virgin Mobile, Tesco Mobile. Cable customer since 1993

Re: Number port to Sky

Hello

Is your Virginmedia line still  active without a cancellation order on it ?

If the line is not active or has been requested to be canceled then according to the rules set by Ofcom the line cannot be ported.

Re: Number port to Sky

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Yes the line is still active.  This is what I don't understand, the number was originally a BT number, the line is still active, I thought that was all that's needed to be able to migrate your number?

Keeping your number in 2020 shouldn't be this hard.  I wouldn't have moved if I knew this was going to be the case.  So am I locked to Virgin if I want to keep the number I've had for forty odd years?  Seems absurd.

Re: Number port to Sky

Hello

The port should not have been refused if your VM line is still active.

I have escalated to the VM forum team, one of the VM staff will be along in this thread to resolve it for you.

Thanks for the post Sharpey52.

I'll pop you over a private message so we can fill in a number port request to get this sorted.

Thanks, Emily.
