Not able to make or receive calls on landline

Don’t use the landline much but elderly mother in law will not call on anything else.  Discovered tonight that when she calls us she’s getting a ringing tone but our phone has not rung.  On investigating, we’ve discovered we’ve no dialling tone so we can’t make outgoing calls either. Auto customer service says “oops look like there’s a problem” but won’t send engineer before Saturday.  Not good enough.  Is this a general issue in the area or specific to us? I.e.  do I even need an engineer or will it just right itself eventually? Area 26 / Kirklees.

Saturday is only two days away, that sounds pretty good service to me

It was 3 days when I called and every hour is an issue when you’ve got a frantic and anxious 92 year old fretting about contacting you.

Thank you for your post. I'm very sorry to hear about the issue with your landline service. 

From what you have described, it sounds as though this maybe a issue specific to your line and so an engineer would be coming to your property.

Our engineer appointments work off availability. It sounds as though there is none until Saturday.
