Noisy landline and dead line

AnneMou64
On our wavelength

Hi Ayisha

You asked me to let you know how I got on with my landline problem.

Today, I received a call on my landline (it had been dead since Saturday/Sunday last). It was my daughter but it was difficult to hear what she was saying and bits of our conversation were obliterated, plus interference noise.

I checked both handsets throughout today and have had a dialling tone.

This evening, I called a friend from my mobile (BTW not a Virgin mobile) and asked her to call me on my landline to test it out.

She got through, but the crackling and interference noise came back during our conversation.

So, I have a dilemma now.

1) I do have a dialling tone

2) it would appear that I can receive calls

3) Do I cancel the engineer’s visit on Friday, as my landline appears to be working despite a the noise on the line?

4) If you check my account, you will note that this has been happening intermittently, for a while, the last occurrence being in November 2022.

5) I do not wish to be charged £25 and it would appear that this is an intermittent fault.

Please advise.

Many thanks

Thanks for coming back to our Forums @AnneMou64.

My advice to any customer with a fault of this nature would be to preserve with the booked in appointment and advise the engineer of the fault being intermittent on arrival.

Hopefully the fault will be there when they call to your property, but they will still be able to see the state of the connection and check on the cabinet for any irregularities that may cause the fault.

Kindest regards,
