No tone dial or incoming calls as of yesterday

Since yesterday my home phone no longer has a dial tone and people trying to ring me cannot get through. I noticed this after receiving an incoming call at or around 11am on Sunday which cut off after 3 or 4 rings. When I attempted a 1471 to check the caller it was at that point I noticed I had no dial tone. Attempts to ring out on any other number including 150 failed too.

I have tried the online test facility a few times yesterday and today, but that has only told me the line was fine. In fact I cannot do that test again because I have reached the limit for the day.

Other phones I have tried in the main socket do not have a dial tone either, I only have a main socket.

Perhaps coincidentally, Liverpool had a large thunderstorm over Saturday night into Sunday. 

Are there any issues in Liverpool with landlines?

Sorry to hear of the landline issues experienced but thanks for taking the time to contact us via the forums to make us aware of this and welcome to the community.

 

Can you confirm if you're a regular user of your landline? (some customer don't use theirs frequently) If so, when were you last able to make or receive a call?

 

If you could let me know I'm happy to look into this further for you?

I am not a regular user of my phone. It may have been a couple weeks since I received an incoming call. Edit: an incoming call which I picked up and had a conversation.

i can’t remember how long since I called out, maybe 8-10 weeks ago.

The last incoming call I heard was the call I received on Sunday which cut off after 3-4 rings.

it was then after dialling 1471 I noticed no ring tone. Subsequently I asked family to ring me on that phone. The phone just rings from their side but I cannot hear anything.

Thanks for coming back to us

 

Can you please tell me if there are multiple pieces of equipment connected to the phone line?

 

If you do have multiple pieces of equipment, can you please unplug anything that's connected to the extension sockets leaving only the handset plugged into the master socket and see if a call comes through?

 

Are you also able to try a different handset into the master socket?

Hi David

My telephone is plugged into the master socket. 

I do not use an extension and there are no other items of equipment involved.

I have tried two other phones in the master socket.

 

Update: Liverpool has just had another thunderstorm. Now when I try my phone there is a loud static noise.

I've arranged for an engineer to come out to your property to take a look at the landline issue, please log into your online account here to find your allocated appointment time slot. This can be rearranged from there if needed.

An engineer is at the home now.

He has found the external wire was at fault and has fixed it.
