My landline connection went off last night following the storm.
I have checked the cable in the wall, unplugged it and plugged it back in.
I have checked the phone itself and the cable for this but I am unable to get a service.

I'm sorry that you're having problems with your landline connection since the storm. I can appreciate you're keen to get this sorted out.
Do you get any dial tone at all?
Are you able to try an alternative handset to see if that helps?
