No dial tone

Having recently moved into a new property and moved my virgin phone package, I now do not have a dial tone on my home phone.
 
The new property does not have a virgin media socket and I do not know whether the phone can be simply plugged into my hub. Do I need to get an adapter so that the phone can be plugged into my hub? If so, what sort of adapter do I need?

Do you mean you have no VM socket connections at all (broadband or phone sockets)?

You need a hub 3 or above for a telephone connection via hub. If your hub is working normally for an internet connection, log into the hub and on the welcome page see if 'Telephony' is enabled or disabled. Should look something like below
