Moved house, joined Virgin but phone number not transferred

I've just joined Virgin Media from Plusnet when I moved home. When I signed up for VM I asked for my old telephone number to be transferred but that does not appear to have happened. How can I get this to happen?

phone numbers can only be ported is both the new and old line is active with no cancellation request on the account. If the line has been cancelled the number will of gone back into the pool for someone else to get after a time.
You won't be able to request the number back
