Motorola FW500 Back up phone

Can i use this phone without it being physically connects to the hub as I was considering moving it to my elderly mother's bedroom in case of emergency?

Without a connection to the hub the Motorola becomes a mobile phone. You could ask VM to connect the hub to an extension and run the extension to your mother's bedroom, that way she would have landline as well as backup.

Already had technician come to have a look would have to run a line outside the property and drill into the wall which we don't wish to do.

So could we use it via the sim upstairs does it operate on the landline plan we have or is this limited to only using 999 number in this sim mode.
