Line engaged

My phone line says it's engaged but the handset just has silence.

The help pages are useless regarding how to actually report a fault

https://www.virginmedia.com/help/fix-your-landline : Only talks about sound quality, ringing etc

- Check service status: Says it's ok and loops back to the one above

Sorry to hear of the issues with the landline services you've been experiencing of late.

Can you please confirm if you've been using the handset in the master socket or in an extension socket?

Please also confirm if an alternative handset has been used and if there are any other pieces of equipment connected to the phone line?

Master socket, my usual dect handset but I’ve tried it with a simple phone as well 

sounds like the line is open
