Landline possibly being used to try and scam people

Received a call today on the landline from someone returning a call from their bank after they had apparently been cut off. It appears that the landline number is being used by someone external to try and scam people. Need advice on what I can do about this and stop it from happening again.

Thank you for your time.

Re: Landline possibly being used to try and scam people

Sounds like your number may possibly have been used as a fake caller ID by scammers. The scammers seem to be increasingly using real numbers rather than random/made up ones, based on recent posts on here.

The scammers usually change their fake caller ID numbers regularly, so any inbound calls to you may well subside on their own.

If you continue to get more calls, you can leave a message on your answering machine advising what has happened and see if the calls subside.

If they don't, you/VM may need to take further action.
