Landline phantom calls

Landline problems:

Regularly cuts off and has a lot of noise.

Getting frequent soft double rings.

Have been charged for calls I did not make, e.g. away from home and calls a 3.0am to 0123 000 000.

Two calls to 999 which led to police ringing last night to check everything alright.

I think some of these have happened to other customers but I seem to have a full house. Also cannot connect to Virgin website on PC, error message 'x400 Bad Request'.

You are correct. The false 0123 number and phantom calls to 999 and random calls at all hours of the day and night have all been mentioned on here before alongside incorrect billing.

Given the seriousness of random 999 calls wasting the time of emergency services, hopefully VM will respond quickly.

They usually send out a tech to investigate. A 'crossed line' is often the explanation given.

One of the VM forum team should reply here within a day or two.

Thanks for confirming your details @NPB17, I have arranged an appointment for a technician visit to check the status of your line, and you can track your engineer appointments online. Simply sign into My Virgin Media and you will see your appointments on your account dashboard. However, this can take up to 24 hours to be updated.

Hi Steven,

thank you for  your message. I'm afraid that 24hrs later there is no appointment in my dashboard. Please could you look into it and update me.

Sorry that the appointment hasn't yet shown up in your online account, I will send over a private message now with your appointment date and time.

You're very welcome @NPB17 and please let us know how the visit goes.

Thanks

Hi Steven,

the visit went well. The engineer was thorough and explained what was going on. He advised that it was down to old copper wires and crossed lines. I don't really see how crossed lines would lead to random calls to imaginary numbers. In any case in anticipation of BT switching off their copper lines my phone line is now VOIP running off a new hub. The engineer had also checked my services and said that we were probably having problems with Broadband which he would fix. In any case the Wi Fi is now much faster and the telephone line is a lot clearer and we haven't had the soft ringing tones. There was a delay in setting up the new landline due to my being in the process of changing contracts. The engineer set up the new configuration and later on that day the switch was made and we had a call from Virgin to check that the line was working.

In all a good experience and thank you, Molly and the engineer for your assistance. I was a little skeptical at first about using the forum but it worked well and promptly. My next step is to call to get the phantom calls off my bill.

Thank you so much for letting us know @NPB17 and this is so great to hear!

We are so sorry that this took longer to resolve than we would like but we are so happy that this is now resolved for you.
