Landline number not ported

My son was moving house, the virgin phone and broadband was in his name so I decided to keep virgin and have a new contract in my name. My sons contract was scheduled to be cancelled and mine set up a day later.

i wished to keep the same number as before however it seems virgin have lost it as it’s not been ported from the same house just different people.

i called virgin who assured me the number would be put back in place in the next 10 days, however I received a text saying they couldn’t port due to being disconnected from the provider (even though it was virgin themselves)

ive just lodged a formal complaint after having been on the phone to an advisor for nearly 3 hours. Very disappointed with this as had the same number for over 30 years!!!

surely the number is with virgin themselves or worst case gone to bt openreach, should be an easy procedure for the port department.

Re: Landline number not ported

Thanks for your post and welcome to the community forums, Akuma

Sorry to hear this had occurred. Was this a transfer of ownership, as in you taking over your son's account? Or was it the closure of an account? If an account is closed, then all services linked to the old account such as email addresses and phone numbers cannot be transferred over, unfortunately. If the number originated from another provider as you are stating, BT, then the number would go back to BT.

Thanks,

Corey C

Re: Landline number not ported

My son closed his account and I opened another a day after. It was on virgin media for around 2 years. It should be easy to reinstate it as it was with virgin before.

Re: Landline number not ported

Thanks for replying, Akuma. Did the number originate from Virgin?

Re: Landline number not ported

It was Plusnet then ported to virgin for roughly 2 years. Surely the number should go back to virgin

Then it would go back to PlusNet unfortunately once the account was cancelled.

Re: Landline number not ported

have been in contact with plusnet who have advised the number is not active. The advised me it’s something virgin can or should sort out by liaising with bt openreach or plusnet

Re: Landline number not ported

Hello Akuma

When a number gets removed off an account for whatever reason

It will go into a pot and reused in say 12 months for example

This stops the number being reissued straight away and a new customer wont get calls asking for the previous owner

I am happy to take a look to see if it is possible

I will need to pass security first though

Re: Landline number not ported

Hello Akuma

Thanks for passing security

Sadly as the number is no longer active We would not be able to bring this across

It is now sitting with PlusNet.

The only way possible is to re activate your plusnet account and then we can bring it over

Re: Landline number not ported

That's great news Akuma,

What I can do now is process this port

It can take around 10 days to come over
