We're supposed to be retaining our old tel no, and I keep getting texts off virgin media saying you are working on it but need to speak to me, asking me to respond. But when I respond its undeliverable!!

I can take a look into this, can you advise exactly what the text stated?

This is what it says-

Hello, it s Virgin Media. We re working on transferring your home phone number, but we need some more information. Please reply with CHAT then follow option 2 for Number Port when you're ready to start texting with us. Thanks
