Landline not working

RainyB
Tuning in

For the last few days my landlone hasn't been working, no dial tone, can't make or receive calls. Same with my elderly patents landline. I am not concerned about my own as I'm moving over to Sky next week and getting rid of my landline. My parents, however, rely on their phone. My dad has a terminal illness and is currently bedbound. They rely on their phone for important calls from the hospital/GP/District nurses. Is there a fault? The Virgin service checker says that there isn't. I need to help them get it up and running ASAP.

Thanks for speaking with us today @RainyB on the forums.

I'm glad we have been able to escalate this and get an appointment out for an engineer.
We have discussed the timings privately for this appointment, as advised - let us know how it goes with the appointment.

Kind regards,
Ilyas.

Up to speed

HI there!
i'm in cr5   coulsdon, and today my landline is also dead , no dialtone, what area are you in please, i did the online check, as had many problems with broadband for last 2 months, and the online check shows , BROADBAND  faulty, TV ok , PHONE ok ,    which it obviuosly is not!!.  As i have no landline working, how am i supposed to call them and tell them??

I've just read about the switchover on Google. Neither myself nor my parents were informed of this. No adapter has been sent to us in the post. This is shocking. My father's life has been potentially put at risk by not having a working phone. Please can someone help us ASAP? My parents are in the MK40 area.

please can you explain what you mean about switchover?  i know nothing about this, and as a disabled vulnerable person of high risk , i need the landline for obvious reasons!!
Are you saying my landline is dead because i need something done to it?

I found this article on Google, but not sure if this is the problem or not -

I usually get an incoming phone call at least once a day on my Virgin Media landline, I never make outgoing calls on it.

After a week without any calls I was beginning to think that the telemarketers had finally given up when my mobile rings and my wife is screaming at me as to why I am not answering the phone, she was getting a ring tone, thinking I am lying dead on the floor like a friend was found 2 months ago.

I say the phone has never rung, in fact I can't remember it ringing for ages.and go and check it.

Dead,.no dial tone, nothing.

Then I remember that a few weeks ago I had got an adapter from Virgin Media to plug into my router to change to fibre phone line over the internet but no date as to when.

So I plug it in to the router and plug the phone in and a dial tone is heard.

So I don't know when Virgin Media changed my phone.

So anyone with a Virgin Media landline who has got an adapter to plug into their router and hasn't had a call in ages check that you haven't been changed over to internet calls.

Hey @RainyB, thanks for reaching out to us on the Virgin Media forums. 🙂

I'm sorry to hear about the issues with the landline you're having. 😞
Please can you check here to see if there are any area issues possibly affecting the service.

If no fault appears, let us know and we'll investigate further to see if there has been a switchover.

Kind regards,
Ilyas.

Hey @bigguy283, thanks for reaching out to us on the forums. 🙂

I'm sorry to hear about the issues with the service you are facing 😞
I can't see anything affecting the landline services or a switchover taking place. Is it still dead with a different landline plugged in?

Regarding the broadband, there is a fault in the area affecting the service, the reference is F010447776, and the estimated repair time is for 12pm on the 19th February 2023.
Let us know how it goes with the landline test and the broadband.

Kind regards,
Ilyas.

Hi there llyas_Y

Today suprise suprise, the landlane phone is now once again working, so whatever VIRGINMEDIA was doing to the service, is anyones guess!.
This brings me to a more worrying problem,IF and WHEN we are forced to go onto the "SWITCHOVER" to use the HUB to make phonecalls, and seeing as we have had BROADBAND issues for the last 2 months, what will happen to me as a vulnerable, high risk medically person, if the BROADBAND is so unreliable?  I am guessing NO BROADBAND CONNECTION, NO PHONECALLING !.
is this true?
p.s The test your services page never gives the correct results anyway, as proved again yesterday
many thanks

Thanks for the reply @bigguy283 on the forums.

If you'd like to switchover to go ahead we can arrange this to happen.
Let us know and we'll get the ball rolling.

Kind regards,
Ilyas.

It shows there is no fault.
