Apparently my usual connection has been changed to hub connection. I am told I need to get my own cable to connect phones away from the router.
I was not told they were doing this and I’m not sure what to do

You use the adaptor to connect your home phone's base station to the back of the Virgin Media hub via the Hub's Tel port. If you have not received an adaptor you can request one from customer services.
Your extension phone sockets will no longer work but you can request for a technician to come over and adjust the wiring so that the extension phone sockets connect to the Tel port on the back of the virgin media hub. Therefore enabling the use of the extension phone sockets again.

Hi Nigel18, thanks for posting and welcome to our community.
Sorry to hear you did not receive your notification of the switchover to telephone via your broadband hub. I do know we've sent advance notice to our customers, so I would not like to speculate on why you did not receive yours. The link, provided by cymru123, is very useful and we thank them for providing it. I would like to help further. I am going to send you a private message. Please look out for the purple envelope in the top right of your screen.
Regards
