Landline not working

My landline has not been working for over a week i cant get calls coming inand cant dile out,ive been on the phone over 2 hrs speaking to 2 differant people who says they will send engineer and text me details  od date and time ive recieved nothing,its just impossible to speak to anyone without hanging on for hours ,please can anyone help!!! I need a landline for emergency calls im just about pulling my hair out!!!!
