Landline not working

I switched onto Virgin yesterday my broadband worked immediately but I have no land line. I have ran a test which detected said it could not detect a telephone. I have followed the help guide in the set up instructions and everything is connected as it should be but still no phone. The phone worked perfect before the switch. Please advise I have been on hold to customer service now for 40 minutes !!!!
