Landline not working... Fibre upgrade?

I'm 89 and live in WD3 5GG. Yesterday my landline stopped working and I do not have a mobile. Rebooted, changed phone batteries and still no joy.  It's impossible to contact Virgin. Someone said it is because I'll be switched to fibre. I may have received a letter with a switchover date but assumed that would be done automatically and without being totally cut off. I don't need 999 as I have a wrist band for that but if I have a non 999 problem I cannot telephone anyone and my son and daughter cannot check up on me which they do daily. How can I find out what is going on and when I will have a working landline again?
