I think VM allows you one number change free of charge (which the VM forum team on here should be able to arrange for you).
If you need to break contact with someone known to you, and stop them calling you, then changing number is useful for that purpose.
Often number-change queries on here are requested to try to stop general spam and scam calls. Changing number for that reason is generally less useful as the 'new' number allocated will come from VM's general pool of numbers and will be recycled from a previous user. The replacement number may come with its own issues of past unwanted calling problems.
