How do I call you re fibrephone phone switchover

Cywol

Very basic question - your letter and your website say to call you if we have other things attached - so I've wandered around the options on 150 and still haven't worked out which options to press to talk to the right people.  What is the answer - and maybe you could get them to put into the telephone response menu?

I am very sorry to hear you feel this way @Cywol.

Changing to the phone service via cable is a government objective and this has to be completed by 2025, we are choosing t change over now to ensure all of our customers have been migrated prior to the current telephone exchange being closed down in 2025.

You can view more information on this here and here

I am so sorry for the impact that this is having on you, and if you do require a Hub relocation we will be happy to do so, but the handsets would need to be wireless due to the sockets not being available.

Thank you.

Sorry Ash but you have managed to miss the point entirely here haven't you? The issue is not that the 21CV migration needs to go ahead, but that VM (and by extension yourself and other members of the forum team) do appear to be misleading customers in claiming that 'hubs or phones have to be moved' (no they don't), 'extensions won't work', 'you need to purchase DECT phones' etc. when none of the above is really true, is it?

In the event of customers having phones that are not close to where the hub is, then they are entitled to a VM technician turning up to run the appropriate wiring and making it all work. Now naturally this involves a degree of expenditure on VM's part which I'm sure they would rather avoid, not of course that anyone would insinuate that VM staff are incentivised to downplay this to save money! Of course not!

Hi Cywol, thanks for posting and welcome to the community,

Are you wanting a relocation of the router due to the migration of the phone line?

Best,

Or, rather than moving the router, you could ask for your existing extension phone sockets to be linked to the phone socket on the hub so that your other things still work without having to move your existing devices around.

Well, the main question was how to do as you ask and phone you about it.  I tried several options on 150.

My house is on 8 levels and has about 18 extension sockets with 4 phones plugged in at this time.  The router can stay where it is as long as it gets hooked into the telephone extension wiring.

The VM forum team on here should be able to assist you when they reply back on the topic although a property on 8 levels and with 18 extension sockets would certainly be a unique installation amongst those which are usually described on here!

Does there happen to be an existing phone socket somewhere in the general vicinity of the hub at the moment, as that would probably simplify the process some?

Hi thanks for coming back to us 🙂

Is there a way you could use wireless handsets?

Kind regards,

Wireless handsets would probably be problematic. It's a Victorian house with big solid walls.  We use four wifi access points to get coverage so DECT phones would probably struggle. There's also a huge amount of RFI around here with all sorts of transmitters within sight as well as fairly dense housing.

The router is near the existing telephone extension wiring - the current VM master socket is at the same location as the router.  Can we just plug it in?  Do we need or not need to leave the master socket in place to support the bell wire?

Have a look at this recent topic where someone explained what was involved

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Home-Phone/Why-must-I-move-my-phones-and-plug-them-into-the-vir...

though you might have a similar battle to get VM to actually do it.

If you have an existing socket next to the hub that certainly will help as the connection from the hub can be 'backfed' using an adapter lead as per example shown at #9 below

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Forum-Archive/HUB3-to-Master-socket-adaptor/m-p/4507007#M143805

Thanks for coming back to me. Due to the migration the sockets won't work. You'll need to have wireless handsets and plug direct into the router. Best

Sadly, there is no easy answer as they try and make it as difficult as they can for you, no matter how hard you try. Even if you get through to someone it is unlikely you will get any meaningful support, even if they understand the question. Just don't be fobbed off into buying new phones just to get them out of the pickle they got you into. Try the option for "thinking of leaving" and then either leave or get them to sort the problem for you.
