Home Phone not ringing

TIM_T

We are still on the old style copper cable phone line as we have more than one phone socket apparently that means we can’t be switched over to the new internet type.

I realised that the landline phone had not rung for a few days and when I tested it from my mobile I noticed that the caller hears the ringing tone but the phones do not ring in the house, although when you pick the phone up you do hear a dial tone.

We have 3 different makes of telephones, 2 handsets are wired and plug directly into a phone socket and the third has a base station and 2 wireless hand sets. None of them currently ring.

I telephoned VM support, using my mobile, and after spending well over an hour talking to 2 different people and answering the same questions over and over and carrying the same tests again and again with each handset, the support person finally agreed that an engineer needed to come to the house to correct the problem.

He told me an engineer would call between 12 -4pm the following day and if I was not in there would be a charge of £25.

I waited in the following day but as I had not received any reminders from VM, which  you usually do, and there was no appointment showing on the app I decided to call and check. When I did finally get through the gentleman confirmed no appointment had been made.

He then said he would sort out my problem for me and so we went through all the same questions and tests again with him finally saying he needs to call my landline and then he will call me back on my mobile in a few minutes. Needless to say he never called me back.

I find being deliberately misled and lied to by VM staff totally unacceptable .

Who do you turn to when the company in question is so incompetent ?

When you dial in to your landline from your mobile, does caller ID appear on the phones display to indicate an incoming call (just minus the ringing sound)?

If you see the caller ID and you answer the incoming call from a mobile, does the call connect OK?

No, when I call the landline from my mobile the landline does not show a caller ID or indicate in any way that there is an incoming call.

In which case wait for the VM forum team to reply here to assist (it can take up to several days but is often quicker).

Thanks for confirming the requested details via PM @TIM_T

I've booked a technician for you to come out and have a look into the issue with your landline. You can find confirmation of the visit via your 👉 online account.

Please let me know if there are any problems with the date or time and I can look to reschedule this for you. In regards to the appointment there are some details you need to know about. There will be no charge for this visit unless:

•The technician diagnoses the faults as not being caused by our network/equipment
•The technician discovers that the fault or problem relates to your equipment
•The technician discovers that the fault or problem relates to any system that we are not responsible for

The technician will confirm during their visit if any of these instances apply, and if so, a £25 charge will be applied to your account.

Please ensure there is someone over the age of 18 present at the time of the visit. If you need to change or cancel your appointment you can also do this online or via the MyVM app by 4pm the day before the appointment.

If you do miss an agreed appointment for any reason, a £25 missed appointment charge will be applied to your account on the day of the appointment.

Let us know how the visit goes!

I received a message this morning from VM saying they have cancelled the engineer appointment you booked for us yesterday because they have discovered the fault is with their network equipment.

I have just received another message saying that the fault has now been rectified but when I tested this by calling our landline phone from my mobile it still does not ring in the house.

Can you please rearrange for the engineer to come round to the house and fix the issue.
