Home Phone Line Over Home Network

Hello

I am getting VM Home Phone Line this week.

I am with another VOIP service provider. The current service works via a box connected to the wired network in the Living Room, i.e., not connected to the hub (HUB 3). I use a cordless phone 3 handsets.

Would setup work with VM Phone Line?

Hey @zoppzee, thanks for the reply.

That setup will be no issue for the landline to work.
Only issue is a matter of placement of the main handset / base when connecting it to the Virgin Media hub.
If you can connect it near it, then the rest of the phones will be okay.

Kind regards.

Hi there @zoppzee, thanks for reaching out to us and a warm welcome to the Virgin Media forums.

Thank you for your query 🙂
At Virgin Media, we too have integrated VOIP as our phone network.
As long as you have the main handset connected to the Virgin Media hub (an adapter will be provided or it goes directly in to the back of the hub), then the landline and the other cordless handsets will work.
I hope this helps.

Kind regards.

Are you porting your phone number from the existing VOIP provider over to VM?

VM's landline service is not a true VOIP connection at present. It uses conventional telephones plugged into a dedicated phone port (TEL1 socket) on the VM hub.

If you are moving your phone number to run on VM's phone system, you would plug the cordless base station into the phone port on the back of the hub (using a plug adapter supplied by VM) and use the cordless handsets around the home as required.

Hello

Thanks for the replies. It clarifies the situation.

I need to move the wireless phone base next to the VM Hub, which is not ideal.

Thanks for the reply @zoppzee.

We could possibly arrange a relocation of the VM hub if you wish.
Although I do have to make you aware of a £25 call out charge, however we can discuss that in a private chat if you wish.
Let us know.

Kind regards.

Hello

I use VM Hub as modem mode; the house is fully wired, and wifi a hotspot on each floor. It is the setup in place for many years now.

If we can't make it work I will not migrate from the existing service provider to VM.

Is your VM hub (which is in modem mode) next to your central patch panel for your structured network cabling (in a comm's cupboard/area, or similar)?

If so, use a suitable lead/adapter to patch the phone socket on the back of the VM hub to your central patch panel and, from there, an adapter at the network socket on the wall to plug in your cordless base station at your preferred location.

Thank you for speaking with us today.

I'm glad we were able to discuss the set up of the landline.
As always - reach out to us if you need anything, we're here and ready to answer. 🙂

Kind regards.
