Home Alarm

We seem to have the same issue as many where our alarm uses the original landline to notify us my phone.

Feel disappointed with VM and the lack of knowledge and customer support they have with this issue. It took 4 call being bounced around and cut off repeating security and the story to be finally told there is no solution.

The attitude seems to be one without responsibility as though to sod you it’s your problem to resolve with the alarm provider. Surely they knew of these problems through planning and should of been ready to provide advice and a solution pre switch.

Very disappointed with the outcome and lack of accountability.

Does anyone have any solutions?

Thanks

Re: Home Alarm

VM's published information on what 'should' happen is at the links below

https://www.virginmedia.com/help/home-phone/virginphone

https://www.virginmedia.com/help/home-phone/virginphone/switchover

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Virgin-Phone-Switchover/gh-p/Switchover

What VM say and what VM do though can be two different things. The process doesn't seem to be very reliable for some customers and they are often left with some equipment which no longer works as it did before.

How does (did) your alarm connect to the previous telephone line?

Did it plug into a telephone extension socket with a telephone plug or is the alarm connection to the phone line hardwired and hidden out of sight?

Even if you do get the alarm reconnected to the new arrangement, it is worth noting from the links above that the phone line isn't guaranteed to operate during a power outage in which case your alarm would have no ability to dial out, even if it was connected to the line. This will be a common arrangement for all telecoms providers not just VM in the new way of providing the phone service.

Many alarms now use a mobile connection to dial out so bypassing the issue of connection to a phone line.

Re: Home Alarm

Hi @Zakko

Thanks for posting on our community forum!

I can see you already have a post open and this is a third party device issue, something we can't look at directly.
