Have had no dial tone on my landline since yesterday

As I have had no dial tone, I rang the 0345 number listed and went through the verification plus stating that I had tested the various handsets by unplugging them one by one and I was informed that I would be put on to an engineer. I waited 45 minutes on my mobile with no response so had to ring off as I was running out of credit. Can someone tell me what it takes to have an engineer call?
