Fraudulent calls turned rude how do I report

Hi all.

This morning I received many calls from people claiming to be virgin media. I knew these were scam calls so kept telling them to stop calling. They called again and when I answered I told them that I know that this is a scam and they shouldn’t be ringing me and his response was ‘yes this is a lie, I know you want my d*!k and I love you’ he carried on saying this stuff and I recorded a bit of it to report it onto virgin media to see if they can look into it, but obviously given the circumstances they are very busy on phone lines and they may not be able to do anything so I don’t know the best way to report it. Any ideas? I wouldn’t want this happening to anyone that is vulnerable. Disgusting!!

Thanks

Re: Fraudulent calls turned rude how do I report

These calls are coming from illegal call centres in India. They are outside the jurisdiction of the UK authorites, & although Indian authorities regularly shut them down they just as easily spring up again elsewhere.

You will find dozens of threads on this Forum relating to these calls.

The only way to filter them out is to buy a phone with call filtering features, as our old & antequated analogue phone systems were never meant to cope with calls being routed through from the internet. When all phone systems go digital in a few years time these call can then be blocked by specialised software.

The scam calls can be highly annoying, especially when they arrive frequently and in large numbers.

Your best bet is to not answer or engage with them. Let the calls go to answering machine or turn off the answering machine and phone ringer and screen the calls with missed calls on caller display.

VM's own provision is fairly minimal to stop these calls getting through. Consider getting a call screening device or a phone which has call screening built in. These devices screen the calls by asking the caller for responses to questions before allowing your home phone to ring. Automated scam calls cannot bypass this stage because they do not know how to respond and so the call gets dropped without ringing your phone.

IMHO there is minimal point in reporting it. It is generally a modest amount of time/effort on your part for little/no benefit.
