Fibre Phone connectivity

I've read the initial instructions of how to connect my existing phone to the Home Hub, using the adaptor supplied, via port 1. I currently use the VM Home Hub in Modem only mode and use Port 1 to connect my Netgear Nighthawk router to provide WiFi around the home. Can the adaptor be plugged into an available port on my Netgear Router?

This is due to happen April 29th - so no rush.

Re: Fibre Phone connectivity

Hi @Darian,

Welcome to our Community Forums! Thank you for your first post and we're glad to have you as a part of our Community! 🙂

I'm happy to assist on your query. I understand that you're wanting to know if because of our Home Phone Switchover you'll be able to connect your third party router.

Our equipment and services are designed to work and co-operate with each other and as I'm unable to comment on third party routers as we are only trained on Virgin Media services and equipment, I would recommend connecting your new landline connection to your Virgin Media Hub.

However, if you do need assistance setting this us, we'll be happy to arrange for a technician to come out and they will be able to provide further assistance in regards to this topic. 🙂

Please let us know how you get on during your new landline install. We're happy to help.

Thank you.

The VM phone adapter connects only to the TEL1 socket on the VM hub to receive the VM landline service via the VM hub.

Re: Fibre Phone connectivity

Hi @Darian in regard to the migration to 21CV and how it will work, I cannot add anything to the advice given by our fantastic community members.

Please do let us know how things go.

Regards

Re: Fibre Phone connectivity

Hi,

If I do not use this adapter, will I lose access to my home phone service? I currently use a third party router with no intention of using my hub as a router. If I can't use the adapter because of modem mode, will the current phone service be switched off and will I lose access to my home phone if I do not update to the fibre adapter?

The 21CV phone line works from the VM hub in either router mode or modem mode.

When VM do your switchover though, your existing telephone wall sockets will cease to work and your only phone connection will be via the TEL1 socket on the hub. If you still need your phone extension sockets to work via the new 21CV connection, you need to book a VM technician, free of charge, to link your home extension sockets to the telephone socket on the VM hub.

Re: Fibre Phone connectivity

Ah so even with the third party router I am using and the hub in modem mode, I will be fine to plug the adapter into the TEL1 socket on the hub and it will still work?

Yes.

Check the information VM have sent you as to whether you need a VM tech or not for the switchover. In some cases the switchover seems to happen automatically. In other cases VM may want to send a tech (for example if an older hub with no TEL sockets needs replacing).

Re: Fibre Phone connectivity

Hey @chrislovett1, thanks for reaching out to us and a warm welcome to the Virgin Media forums!

Regarding your query on the new phone lines, the answer is yes.
To use a third party router, your Virgin Media hub would be in modem mode wired up and attached to the the third party hub, and your phone line would be connected to the 'TEL 1' port directly or with an adapter, some customers have an adapter, others such as myself don't and the line fits directly in.
Hope this answers the question, let us know.

Kind regards.
