Dead landline

Hi. I've tried to find online chat but the link VM sent me on twitter doesnt work. It's my 80 year old dad's landline. SE9 area. No dial tone. No outgoing or incoming calls. Status says no problems. He tried to call virgin but very confusing for him with how many options to press  plus he doesn't know his password. Can you help. Urgent as he lives alone and is vulnerable and has no working landline
